Gratitude Poems – Poem About Gratitude

Gratitude To The Unknown Instructors
by William Butler Yeats

WHAT they undertook to do
They brought to pass;
All things hang like a drop of dew
Upon a blade of grass.

Gratitude
by Lucy Maud Montgomery

I thank thee, friend, for the beautiful thought
That in words well chosen thou gavest to me,
Deep in the life of my soul it has wrought
With its own rare essence to ever imbue me,
To gleam like a star over devious ways,
To bloom like a flower on the drearest days
Better such gift from thee to me
Than gold of the hills or pearls of the sea.
For the luster of jewels and gold may depart,
And they have in them no life of the giver,
But this gracious gift from thy heart to my heart
Shall witness to me of thy love forever;
Yea, it shall always abide with me
As a part of my immortality;
For a beautiful thought is a thing divine,
So I thank thee, oh, friend, for this gift of thine.

Gratitude
by Henry Van Dyke

“Do you give thanks for this? — or that?”
No, God be thanked
I am not grateful
In that cold, calculating way, with blessing ranked
As one, two, three, and four, — that would be hateful.
I only know that every day brings good above”
My poor deserving;
I only feel that, in the road of Life, true Love
Is leading me along and never swerving.
Whatever gifts and mercies in my lot may fall,
I would not measure
As worth a certain price in praise, or great or small;
But take and use them all with simple pleasure.
For when we gladly eat our daily bread, we bless
The Hand that feeds us;
And when we tread the road of Life in cheerfulness,
Our very heart-beats praise the Love that leads us.

Gratitude And Love To God
by William Cowper

All are indebted much to thee,
But I far more than all,
From many a deadly snare set free,
And raised from many a fall.
Overwhelm me, from above,
Daily, with thy boundless love.
What bonds of gratitude I feel
No language can declare;
Beneath the oppressive weight I reel,
‘Tis more than I can bear:
When shall I that blessing prove,
To return thee love for love?
Spirit of charity, dispense
Thy grace to every heart;
Expel all other spirits thence,
Drive self from every part;
Charity divine, draw nigh,
Break the chains in which we lie!
All selfish souls, whate’er they feign,
Have still a slavish lot;
They boast of liberty in vain,
Of love, and feel it not.
He whose bosom glows with thee,
He, and he alone, is free.
Oh blessedness, all bliss above,
When thy pure fires prevail!
Love only teaches what is love:
All other lessons fail:
We learn its name, but not its powers,
Experience only makes it ours.

0163 Gratitude
by Michael Shepherd

It’s a curious time of year –
one day warm and sunny, mild,
the next cold and rainy;
one night frosty, the next night mild;
a pointed reminder that we’re about to be
overwhelmed by an abundance of beauty
which we call summer, and which –
can we pretend we’ve earned?
a little hesitancy on Nature’s part,
a little touch of hope deferred
does wonders for the grateful heart.

A Daughter’s Gratitude To A Loving Mother
by Swatimalya Chattopadhyay

I can renounce all worldly pleasures
To strengthen our bond
Your love, care and concern are my treasures
Which precipitate a coating around
This makes me impervious to malignities outside
All my sufferings get alleviated
When you sit beside.
It reminds me of the school days
When on return throwing the bag,
I would cuddle you for long
And seek shelter in your lap.
From the juvenile to maturity
At the life’s vertical shaft
You have shouldered all the burden
To hold me aloft.
But the law of eternity
Will not allow this pair of electrons
To remain in a bond.
Cruel time will snatch one electron
Leaving an ion (Loss of an electron) .
‘Births’ and ‘ Rebirths’ not known to us
Whether those are true
But if they appear over and over
Shall always pray for a mother like you..
