Nature & Art

"The Tree" by Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see A poem as lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth's sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

Nature & Art

"Trees" by Philip Larkin

The trees are coming into leaf Like something almost being said; The recent buds relax and spread, Their greenness is a kind of grief. Is it that they are born again And we grow old? No, they die too. Their yearly trick of looking new Is written down in rings of grain. Yet still the unresting castles thresh In fullgrown thickness every May. Last year is dead, they seem to say, Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.

"The Oak Tree" by D.H. Lawrence

I am the oak tree, I stand so strong and tall. I have seen many seasons come and go, I have seen them one and all.

I have stood through winter's icy blast, And summer's scorching heat. I have seen the world change and evolve, From the ground beneath my feet.

I am a part of the earth, And the earth is a part of me. I am the oak tree, Forever strong and free.
